Family Cycling Holidays

Dartmoor offers a range of cycling experiences for all the family, there are disused railway line and and quiet lanes to explore. You do not need to bring your own bikes as these and helmets can be hired from Devon Cycle Hire and they will deliver to the Barn, their telephone number is 01837 861141.

The Granite Way is a great way for families to cycle between Okehampton and Lydford along a former railway line with spectacular views of Dartmoor and the west Devon countryside, there are superb viaducts along the way. The route is 11miles/18km long.

Cycling south of Lydford towards Brentor and Tavistock is another option if you do not mind on-road cycling.

The Plym Valley Cycle Track starts east of Skylark Inn, Clearbrook (south Dartmoor) and heads towards Plymouth and follows the route of the Great Western Railway track.

Burrator resevoir is another great destination for a family ride and as normal with Dartmoor there are some stunning views.

A recent leaflet has been produced by Dartmoor National Park Authority to promote opportunities for off road cycling. The leaflet was researched and written by two Mosaic Youth Champions to promote opportunities for cycling to younger audiences.

The route is based on a 20km circuit, starting at Princetown, cycling around Burrator reservoir and returning to Princetown via South Hessary Tor.  As well as providing route information, the leaflet contains top tips for enjoying mountain biking on Dartmoor, advice on responsible riding and safety information.
